Nike Sabrina 1 Performance Review
With the rapid growth of the Women’s National Basketball Association, it is pivotal that the superstars of the league continue to help positively drive the league forwards.
One of these superstars is New York Liberty’s Point Guard - Sabrina Ionescu
The 25-year-old has established herself as one of the most talented perimeter players in the game. Her unquestionable ability to adapt between scoring and playmaking roles have resulted in back-to-back WNBA All-Star selections in 2022 and 2023.
Ionescu became the youngest player in league history to record a triple-double, demonstrating her dominant impact on both ends of the floor.
Her influence on the court has not gone un-noticed… After originally signing with Nike back in 2020, she has now been rewarded by the brand with the release of her debut signature sneaker – The Nike Sabrina 1.
Sabrina Ionescu becomes just the second WNBA athlete to secure a Nike signature footwear model, alongside Washington Mystics star Elena Delle Donne and her Nike Deldon 1 collection.
The Nike Sabrina 1 is designed for players like Ionescu, that use their acceleration and sharpness to overcome opponents. Inspired by Romanian art and architecture, the low-cut sneaker uses a multi-layered mesh upper with detailed embroidery patterns on the forefoot.
Moving onto the midsole, full length react cushioning is utilised with a Zoom Air unit in the forefoot, providing comfort along with a responsive, bouncy feel.
The midfoot contains a shank plate to provide rigidity and more stability to the shoe with finally the outsole displaying multi-directional patterns for traction and grip on the court.
“Photon Dust” partners up with “Anthracite” and “Oxygen Purple” to produce this mellow but equally compelling initial “Ionic” colourway.
Alongside the number 20’s shoe release, an additional apparel collection will also be available at the same time.
The Nike Sabrina 1 will be available in UK sizes 6-9.5 and will be dropping on the Pro:Direct Basketball site 16/08/23. Further colourways will also be releasing soon, so watch this space.
